Youth empowerment through education

The Bro. James P. Dunne, S.J. Scholars Association launched its second batch of scholars last May 30, 2015 at CARD MRI Head Office in San Pablo City, Laguna.

The five students namely Aryanna Maree Chavez, Rejean Shanley Embestro, Zechariah Maree Flores, Hanna Mae Sidro and Caren Titular, all from San Pablo City, will be in grade 7 this coming school year. The selected scholars will study in Academia de San Ignacio de Loyola, an educational institution in San Pablo City initiated by the Ateneo de San Pablo Alumni Foundation.

“There are many different ways to help our countrymen, but I believe that one of the major factors that we should focus is on education,” said Dr. Jaime Aristotle B. Alip, the President of the Bro. James P. Dunne, S.J. Scholars Association.

Bro. James P. Dunne, S.J. Scholars Association was organized by the alumni of the Ateneo de San Pablo. Class ’73 founded the association while Class ’66 supported it to help poor but deserving high school students in San Pablo City, Laguna. “We are doing this in honor of Bro. James P. Dunne, the long-time Director of Ateneo de San Pablo, for his untiring and unselfish assistance to send poor students while he is still alive. We are hoping that this program could touch more lives and contribute in eradicating poverty in the country,” said Atty. Pablito Perez, the Chairman of the Bro. James P. Dunne, S.J. Scholars Association.

The association’s pioneering batch of scholars who will be in the grade 8 for the coming school year belong to the school’s academic achievers for grade 7. Today, the Bro. James P. Dunne, S.J. Scholars Association has ten scholars who will be studying in the said school. The Association taps more alumni of Ateneo de San Pablo to join the group and give financial assistance to support more students who dream of a better life.

Qualified scholars will be supported by the association for six years in high school in which tuition and miscellaneous fees including book allowance will be covered.
