CARD Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (CARD MRI) and the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) through the College of Public Affairs and Development (CPAf) signed a supplemental memorandum of agreement for the CARD MRI Professional Chair in Microfinance and Social Development on August 29, 2019 at the Office of the President, UPLB.

The supplemental MOA brings the endowment fund from PhP 2.0 million to PhP 2.5 million with the additional PhP 500,000 from CARD MRI. The partnership between UPLB-CPAf and CARD MRI was initiated in 2008 to strengthen the collaborative programs in the academic field.

The partnership will allow to conduct collaborative research projects on microfinance and social development knowledge.

UPLB Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr., UPLB CPAf Dean Rolando T. Bello, and University Extension Specialist and Assistant to the Dean Eileen Lorena M. Mamino signed the memorandum of agreement together with CARD MRI Founder and CARD, Inc. Chairman Emeritus Dr. Jaime Aristotle B. Alip, CARD, Inc. President Flordeliza L. Sarmiento, and Director for Resource Mobilization/Partnerships, Jean Pauline B. Landicho between UPLB-CPAf and CARD, Inc.

“It is an opportunity for us to continue for new discoveries and learnings. Through this partnership, we are looking forward for the positive approach that would reinforce CARD MRI as a social development organization,” said Dr. Alip.

After the MOA signing, Dr. Alip and Sarmiento discussed with Sanchez that CARD will continuously support UPLB-CPAf with its social development programs.

“This continuing partnership with CPAf will strengthen the microfinance industry and other social development in helping its goal in ending poverty in the country,” Sarmiento concluded.
