Faring better financially

When Amelita Nacarita lost her husband seven years ago, raising her seven children was an uphill challenge. Giving up, however, was never her option. To Amelita, the source of her strength is her children.

Amelita endured the pain just to provide food on the table and send her children to school. Her eldest child even stopped schooling and decided to work for the meantime to help her.

To sustain their daily needs, Amelita, with the help of her children, engaged in selling vegetables and fruits from the small piece of land her parents passed her.

Eventually, the demand increased, which led her to engage in buy and sell of fruits and vegetable. A friend introduced Amelita to Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD), Inc. (A Microfinance NGO) to help finance Amelita’s business.

To date, Amelita’s business continue to generate income allowing her to provide the needs of her children and at the same time prepare their future by having microsavings and microinsurance.

Amelita also attends the weekly meeting at CARD, Inc. to learn more about financial management during their Credit with Education (CwE) sessions.

According to Amelita, she will never get tired working for her family. She also hopes that her children will get to learn a lot from her so that they can be prepared when the time they become parents.

CARD, Inc. is a social development institution that is in the business of ending poverty in the Philippines by providing financial and community development programs.
