Starting Again

Jovelina Flores, a grocery store owner from Camarines Sur, made it her lifelong commitment to ensure that her family will remain whole.

Joveline Flores from Del Gallego, Camarines Sur grew up in a broken family. Even when her parents separated when she was still a young child, she did not hold any grudges against them. Instead, it made her strived harder to ensure that her family now will always be intact.

Her family has become her top priority in life. She is willing to do anything for them, especially to ensure that her family will live happily and completely. Together with her husband, they tried a copra production business as their main source of income. They also bought a padyak, a bicycle with a sidecar that is used for public transportation, as an addition to their daily income.

When other entrepreneurs started to produce copra like them, the couple decided to venture into another kind of business. As a capital start-up for a grocery, Jovelina loaned PhP100,000 from CARD Bank, a microfinance-oriented rural bank. The grocery store then expanded to offering hardware supplies as well.

“Starting a new business is quite challenging. But with CARD Bank by our side, we became braver to start again,” Jovelina stated. She also continued that CARD will be an important part of her family, especially in achieving her dreams for her family.

Due to the couple’s hard work, perseverance, and positive mindset, their businesses continue to grow and to provide for their family’s needs.
