CARD health fairs benefit 5,000 Palawan residents

More than 5,000 microfinance clients of Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD), Inc. and CARD SME Bank in Palawan benefited from the eleven Community Health Days (CHDs) conducted in the towns of Busuanga; San Nicolas; Borac,Coron; Isla Agutaya; Linapacan; El Nido; Roxas; Bataraza; Puerto Princes; Taytay; and Araceli Island on March 8-25, 2019. The series of health fairs were conducted in collaboration with CARD Mutually Reinforcing Institution’s (CARD MRI) Microfinance and Health Protection (MaHP) Unit. CARD MRI is a group of 21 social development-oriented institutions including CARD, Inc. and CARD SME Bank that aims to eradicate poverty through financial and community development programs such as health. The health initiative is part of the institutions’ commitment of providing health care services to its clients in the area. “When a family is healthy, they are able to manage and work together in fulfilling their dreams,” said Dr. Roderick Belen, Deputy Director of MaHP. Through the MaHP unit, CARD, Inc. and CARD SME Bank were able to provide free medical consultation, dental extraction, optical service, and feeding program for children as well as health education to raise awareness and knowledge on various diseases common today. “Our goal is to provide health care services among CARD clients especially to areas where access is limited,” said Dr. Belen. Community Health Day is one of major community development programs of CARD institutions. To date, MaHP already conducted 152 CHDs nationwide benefitting more than 70,000 clients and their dependents and the general public. “More CHDs will be organized in the coming months. Schedules are announced through CARD MRI offices, Facebook account, corporate website, and newspaper,” Dr. Belen concluded.
